Spellemann prizes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spellemannprisen is a Norwegian music prize that is awarded annually and can be seen as the Norwegian counterpart to the US Grammy .

The prize was founded in 1972 on the initiative of the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industries) and the first prizes (for 1972) were awarded in 1973. It is organized by the "Spellemannscommittee", which is determined by IFPI Norway and the Norwegian interest group of music producers FONO. There are prizes in 17 music categories and 4 special prizes: Spellemann Prize of the Year, Newcomer, Hit and Music Video. There is a separate, secret jury for each division. Sometimes no prize is awarded either.
