Vilde Frang Bjærke (born August 19, 1986 in Oslo , Norway ) is a Norwegian violinist .

education

Vilde Frang was born in Oslo and began playing the violin at the age of 4 using the Suzuki method . From 1993 to 2002 she studied violin at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo with Stephan Barratt-Due , Alf Richard Kraggerud and Henning Kraggerud .

Frang gave her first public solo concert when she was 10 years old with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. In 1998 she was introduced to Anne-Sophie Mutter , who became her mentor and later enabled her to receive a scholarship from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation .

At the age of 12, Mariss Jansons engaged her as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 1999 .

From 2003 to 2009, Frang continued her studies in Germany. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Kolja Blacher and at the Kronberg Academy with Ana Chumachenco .

Career

Frang's debut with the  London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007 led to a renewed engagement the following season, under Vladimir Jurowski  at the  Royal Festival Hall .

In 2008 Vilde Frang signed an exclusive record deal with EMI Classics . Her debut album was released in 2009, after which she was named EMI Classics Young Artist of the Year in 2010. Her recordings for EMI / Warner Classics have been awarded a Classical BRIT , the German Record Prize , the ECHO Klassik , the Edison Klassiek Award , the Diapason d'or and the “Editor's Choice” from Gramophone magazine.

Frang won the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award 2012. This award was linked to a concert with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Bernard Haitink during the Lucerne Festival .

In 2013 she made her debut at the London Proms with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra under John Storgards at the Royal Albert Hall . From the 2012/13 to 2014/15 season, Vilde Frang was an artist in the “Junge Wilde” series at the Dortmund Konzerthaus .

Frang gave concerts with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra , the BBC Symphony Orchestra , the Philharmonia Orchestra , the Liverpool Philharmonic , the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig , the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin , the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks , the Orchester de Paris , the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France , the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , the St. Petersburg Philharmonic , the Washington National Symphony , the Seattle Symphony , the Toronto Symphony Orchestra , the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, under conductors such as Vladimir AshkenazyDaniel Harding , Krzysztof Urbański , Andrés Orozco-EstradaPaavo JärviKent Nagano , Iván FischerMariss Jansons , Neeme JärviDavid ZinmanEsa-Pekka Salonen  and  Herbert Blomstedt .

As a soloist and in a recital with her duo partner Michail Lifits , she has performed in renowned halls such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Tonhalle Zurich , the Wiener Musikverein , the Wigmore Hall London and the Carnegie Hall New York as well as in the Salle Pleyel Paris and the Tchaikovsky Hall Moscow , and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.

Frang has been a guest at festivals in Salzburg, Verbier , Gstaad, Lucerne , Utrecht, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , the Rheingau , Lockenhaus , the London Proms as well as the Prague Spring Music Festival and the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest.

On May 1, 2016, Vilde Frang made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle . In Røros, Norway, she played Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's violin concerto at the Europe Concert.

Her musical partners include Gidon Kremer , Yuri Bashmet , Martha Argerich , Leif Ove Andsnes , Truls Mørk , Nicolas Altstaedt , Nils Mönkemeyer , Sol Gabetta , Janine Jansen , Julian Rachlin and Maxim Vengerov .

Frang is a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music . She plays a violin made by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume in 1866.
