James Gaffigan

James Gaffigan (* 1979 in New York City ) is an American conductor and chief conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra .

James Gaffigan attended both the New England Conservatory of Music and the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston. There he graduated as a conductor. He also studied at the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival and School and was a Conducting Fellow at the Music Center in Tanglewood .

First he was from 2003 to 2006 as assistant to Franz Welser-Möst at the Cleveland Orchestra . From 2009 to 2012 he was a conductor with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra , where he was assistant to Michael Tilson Thomas .

After winning the Sir Georg Solti international conducting competition in 2004, he was in international demand.

James Gaffigan lives in Lucerne .
