The Kronberg Academy is an international cultural institution for the training and promotion of young, highly talented musicians of the violin , viola and violoncello and has been based in Kronberg im Taunus since it was founded in 1993 . The Kronberg Academy offers academic courses for training on string instruments. It also organizes various musical projects, concerts and an international string festival.

history

Kronberg Academy was founded in 1993 as an International Chamber Music - Academy Kronberg, based in Kronberg im Taunus established its current name it bears since 1999. Managing Director and Artistic Director since the founding Raimund Trenkler. After initially focusing on the cello and promoting young cellists, the Kronberg Academy developed into an academy for violin, viola and cello. In 2004 it was given the legal form of a non-profit foundation . In 2018 the Kronberg Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary with a gala concert in the Kurhaus Wiesbaden.

The opening of the Casals Forum is planned for 2022, which will be built near the Kronberg train station according to plans by the architect Volker Staab . It will include a concert hall for 550 people and a study center for the Kronberg Academy.

courses

The Kronberg Academy Foundation offers courses that are unique in Europe. This includes a bachelor 's and master' s degree for outstanding young musicians who have the potential to make international careers as soloists . The course is designed for a maximum of 25 people, takes a total of three years and is offered in cooperation with the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . The "Kronberg Academy Professional Studies" build on this, a two-year course that focuses on musical concert practice. The "Kronberg Academy Precollege" is intended for instrumentalists who, aged 16 to 17, are still too young to apply for the "Kronberg Academy Bachelor".

Teachers

Lecturers of the Kronberg Academy courses are Ana Chumachenco , Christian Tetzlaff , Antje Weithaas , Mihaela Martin , Nobuko Imai , Tabea Zimmermann , Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Frans Helmerson . Martin Helmchen works with the students as a lecturer for “Duo Performance”. Other internationally known artists such as Gidon Kremer , Gary Hoffman, Mauricio Fuks, Yuri Bashmet , András Schiff , Antoine Tamestit , Christoph Eschenbach and others. a., the students regularly teach in internal master classes.

Stephen Potts was the director of the courses from 2005 to 2012. Friedemann Eichhorn has been director of the Kronberg Academy courses since July 2012 and shares artistic direction with Raimund Trenkler.

Artistic Advisory Board

The Kronberg Academy is actively supported by many well-known artists. The members of the Artistic Advisory Board are Marta Casals Istomin , Yuri Bashmet , Christoph Eschenbach , Gidon Kremer and András Schiff . Until his death in 2007, the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich was also a member of the Artistic Advisory Board. In 1997 he had declared Kronberg the “world capital of the cello” and founded the Rostropovich Cello Foundation in Kronberg to promote young cellists.

Numerous internationally known events of the Kronberg Academy, all with the background to inspire, train and further educate young musicians, complement and support the funding activities and make Kronberg a meeting point for artists from all over the world:

  • Kronberg Academy in Seoul / South Korea (2004, 2006 and 2008)
  • Chamber music project "Chamber Music Connects the World" (since 2000 every two years)
  • International Pablo Casals Cello Competition (2000 and 2004),
  • Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann, Berlin, together with the Berlin University of the Arts (every four years since 2002)
  • Projects for children and teenagers: Classic for Kids, With Music - Together, Youth Concerts

World-famous artists have established foundations based in Kronberg:

  • Rostropovich Cello Foundation
  • Gidon Kremer Foundation
  • Yuri Bashmet Viola Foundation

With the Emanuel Feuermann Conservatory , the Kronberg Academy offers violin, viola and cello lessons for children and young people. The conservatory is one of the three representatives of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in Hesse.

Numerous Kronbergers - they make up most of the approx. 1250 members (as of 03/2017) of the Friends and Supporters of Kronberg Academy eV - are host parents for the many young string players from all over the world who come to the city for workshops , concerts and festivals .
