Thomas Søndergård

Thomas Søndergård (born October 4, 1969 in Holstebro , Denmark ) is a Danish conductor .

Life

From 1989 to 1992 Søndergård studied percussion and timpani at the Danish Music Academy and the Freiburg Music Academy and was already a member of the European Union's youth orchestra EUYO. After graduating, he first became a member of the Copenhagen Royal Chapel . Since the end of the 1990s, he has increasingly devoted himself to conducting.

From 2009 to 2012 he was chief conductor of the Kringkastingsorkestret (KORK) of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation . In December 2009 he led the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for the first time , where he was chief conductor from 2012 to 2018. In addition, since 2012 he has performed three productions annually with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra as principal guest conductor , and has been music director there since 2018 .

In 2017 he conducted the world premiere of the opera Edward II by Andrea Lorenzo Scartazzini at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .
