Henning Kraggerud

Henning Kraggerud (born June 23, 1973 in Oslo , Norway ) is a Norwegian musician ( violin and viola ) and composer. He has established himself as one of the most outstanding international soloists in Scandinavia.

Career

Kraggerud was born in Oslo. He studied with Camilla Wicks , Emanuel Hurwitz and Stephan Barratt-Due before embarking on a career that enabled solo performances in Europe, Russia and the USA with leading orchestras and in collaboration with the most important conductors. He made his American debut as a soloist in 1998 at Carnegie Hall , working with the most talented colleagues in concerts and chamber music performances. He is regarded as an outstanding violist and enjoys an equally good reputation as first violinist in chamber orchestras and symphoniettas . He is an experienced composer who also writes musical arrangements and his own cadences .

His recordings for Naxos include Grieg's violin sonatas and Norwegian favorites for violin and orchestra. As a recipient of the prestigious Grieg Prize in Norway, he was named Artist-Residence 2004 by the Bergen International Festival.

Kraggerud took over the position of Artistic Co-Director of the Risør Festival of Chamber Music from Leif Ove Andsnes in 2011. Since 2012 he has been Artistic Director of the Tromsø Chamber Orchestra. With his strong commitment to chamber music, Kraggerud appears on both the violin and the viola at major international festivals. His most recent collaborations include a Szymanowski Focus at Wigmore Hall in London and Zankel Hall in New York City, curated by Piotr Anderszewski , and appearances at the Verbier Festival with Joshua Bell , Leonidas Kavakos and Martha Argerich . In 2011 he performed at the "Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival" and the "Seoul Spring Festival", among others. Since 2012 he has been a member of the "Rio International Chamber Music Week" in Brazil and the "Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival". Together with Imogen Cooper and Adrian Brendel he appears at LSO St Luke's in the BBC 's chamber concert series .
