Janine Jansen (born January 7, 1978 in Soest , Utrecht Province , Netherlands ) is a Dutch violinist .

Life

Jansen comes from a family of musicians: her grandfather led a church choir , her mother sang in the church choir, her father Jan and brother David play the harpsichord , and her older brother Maarten the cello . At first Janine Jansen was also interested in the cello, but then began to learn the violin. Her first teacher was Coosje Wijzenbeek. At the age of ten, Jansen appeared on stage for the first time in front of an audience. She studied with Philipp Hirschhorn at the Utrecht Conservatory and took master classes with Boris Belkin , Menahem Pressler , Joshua Bell , Isaac Stern , Ana Chumachenco , Josef Gingold , Viktor Liberman and Mstislav Rostropovich . In 1998 she graduated with honors.

Jansen sometimes played the Antonio Stradivarius violin "Barrère" from 1727. Since 2016 she has been playing the Stradivarius "Rivaz, Baron Gutmann" from 1707, which was arranged for her by Beare's International Violin Society. After a test phase, the instrument was given to her by the new owner Dextra Musica, a foundation of the Norwegian financial group DNB, for ten years .

Since her debut in 2003, Jansen has been a regular guest at the BBC “ Proms ”, the world's largest classical music festival. In 2005 she opened the festival with the highly acclaimed “First Night of the Proms” concert in the Royal Albert Hall . From the 2006/07 to 2008/09 season Janine Jansen was an artist in the “Junge Wilde” series at the Dortmund Konzerthaus. In 2014 she was the soloist of the final concert of the “Last Night of the Proms”.

Jansen is also a chamber musician. She is in charge of the International Chamber Music Festival she founded in 2003 in the Vredenburg in Utrecht . Since 1998 she has been a member of the chamber music series “Spectrum Concerts Berlin”. Her chamber music partners include Boris Adrianov , Juri Baschmet , Itamar Golan , Paavo Järvi , Mischa Maisky , Paul Meyer , Emmanuel Pahud , Christian Poltéra , Julian Rachlin and Kathryn Stott .

Jansen was in a relationship with the musician Julian Rachlin and is now married to the Swedish cellist and conductor Daniel Blendulf.
