In the justification of the Kuratorium of the Kulturstiftung Festspielhaus Baden-Baden it says: “Hardly any other conductor asks Thomas Hengelbrock the question: What is my job as a musician today? In doing so, he decisively expanded the concept of music education for future generations to include music education for young professional musicians. The enthusiasm and the joy of discovery with which Thomas Hengelbrock goes about it are contagious and stimulating. He shapes the image of a modern conductor in the best sense of the word, who has mastered a repertoire of music from over four centuries and who - like the way he plays this music - repeatedly questions himself.
