Simon Wills

Simon Wills (* 1957 ) is an English trombonist , composer and professor of trombone at the Guildhall School of Music . He lives in London .

From 1983 to 1997 he was principal trombonist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and a member of various well-known orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra , the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra . Peter Maxwell Davies composed the piece Judas Mercator for him .

Wills is an expert in the performance practice of romantic music and has studied contemporary brass music.

His compositional style is a result of various influences from all musical epochs and can be described as eclectic . In 2006 his full-length opera The Secret Agent (based on the novella by Joseph Conrad ) premiered at the Feldkirch Festival.
