Jos van Immerseel

Jos van Immerseel (born  November 9, 1945 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian harpsichordist , pianist and conductor .

Life

Jos van Immerseel studied organ, piano and harpsichord at the Antwerp Conservatory with Flor Peeters , Eugène Traey and Kenneth Gilbert . There he founded the Collegium Musicum , developed a great commitment to renaissance and baroque music and consequently expanded his classical and romantic repertoire.

From 1972 on he taught figured bass and harpsichord at the Antwerp Conservatory . Since 1982 he has been leading international master classes at the academy of the local Vleeshuis Museum , which has an extensive collection of historical keyboard instruments. He also led master classes at many international festivals. He taught at the Conservatoire de Paris and also at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam , where he was appointed Artistic Director in 1981.

The winner of many international competitions and multiple awardees is particularly praised for his improvisational skills. He also plays on his own instruments on the concert tours.

In 1987 he founded the historical instrument ensemble Anima Eterna , which specializes in music from the late 18th and 19th centuries . As a conductor, member of chamber music ensembles and as a soloist , he made many recordings.

Together with his current concertmaster Midori Seiler , he presented a recording of the Mozart sonatas for violin and piano on fortepiano , which was awarded the Diapason de l'année in Paris in 2003 . In 2010 van Immerseel received the Bremen Music Festival Prize .
