Moshe Atzmon
Moshe Atzmon ( Hebrew משה עצמון; * July 30, 1931 in Budapest ; originally Móse Grószberger ) is an Israeli conductor .
Life
Moshe Atzmon began his musical training in Budapest. When he was 13 years old, his parents immigrated to Israel . He studied cello and horn in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem . In addition, he completed his conductor training. Further studies followed in London .
In 1963 he received 2nd prize at the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Music Competition in New York. Later he was a guest conductor with the major philharmonic orchestras in Berlin, Munich and Vienna. From 1971 to 1976 he succeeded Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt , chief conductor of the NDR symphony orchestra .
1967–1971 he was chief conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra , 1972–1986 of the Basel Symphony Orchestra . From 1978 to 1983 he was also head of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra . Moshe Atzmon is not only known as a conductor of symphonic music, but also as an opera conductor. From 1991 to 1994 he was general music director of the Dortmund Philharmonic , where he also worked for the opera .
