The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a cable car near Palm Springs , California, opened in 1963 . From the valley station at 806 m above sea level to the 2597 m high mountain station on Mount San Jacinto in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument , it overcomes an altitude difference of 1791 m and several climatic zones . The aerial tramway runs over five pillars and covers an inclined length of 3895 m.

It is the largest of the three rotating cable cars in the world, since it was converted by Garaventa in 2001 and equipped with a ROTAIR cabin from the CWA , the inside of which rotates around itself during the journey. This cabin has a diameter of 5.5 m and holds 80 people and the cabin attendant. It weighs 10 t when empty and has a maximum load of 16.2 t.
