Klaus Weise (* 1936 ) is a German conductor .

biography

Klaus Weise comes from today's Polish Pomerania . After studying in Leipzig , Dresden and Berlin , he was hired in Trier . Via Wuppertal he came to Kiel and Essen as Kapellmeister , where he also taught conducting and directed the orchestra class at the Folkwang University . In Bern he became chief conductor of the city ​​theater .

Since 1978, Weise was general music director, first at the Freiburg Municipal Theaters , from 1981 at the Kiel Theater and from 1985 to 1990 with the Dortmund Philharmonic . He then was chief conductor of the Nice Opera and the Philharmonic Orchestra there until 1997 . From 1997 to 2000 he was General Music Director of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville .

From 2000, Weise worked as a freelance conductor. He worked with the international orchestra of the Jerusalem Festival and had contracts as a permanent guest conductor at the Opera in Copenhagen , the Opera in Stockholm , the Opera National de Bordeaux and the New York City Opera . He has also made guest appearances with numerous other leading orchestras and opera houses in Europe and Brazil as well as in Japan since 1987 and as a guest conductor with the Chinese Philharmonic in Beijing since 1998 .

From 2004 to 2007 he was Roger Epple's successor General Music Director at the Halle Opera and, since the summer of 2006, also chief conductor of the Staatskapelle Halle . After a dispute with the orchestra about the city of Halle's unsettled cutback plans, Weise spontaneously announced his resignation in March 2007 and asked for early release from his contract, which should run until 2008. In May 2007 he gave his farewell concert in Halle. He then conducted alternately in Ankara ( Bilkent Symphony Orchestra ), in Kiel, Paris , Seoul , Beijing and Guangzhou .
