The Theater Kiel (formerly also: stages of the state capital Kiel ) is the large theater in Kiel supported by the state capital Kiel and financed jointly with the state of Schleswig-Holstein .

With the four in-house producing branches ( music theater with a philharmonic orchestra , ballet , drama , children's and youth theater ), three different theaters, around 500 employees and an annual budget of around 35 million euros, it is one of the largest theaters in Germany . Since January 1, 2007, Theater Kiel has been run in the legal form of an institution under public law (AöR) , in which the previous office for the stages of the state capital of Kiel was opened. The theater is supported, among other things, by cooperations with the Friends of the Theater Association in Kiel , the Verein Musikfreunde Kiel e. V. and the Volksbühne Kiel e. V., from which numerous events arise.

Director General and Drama Director Daniel Karasek , General Music Director Benjamin Reiners and Commercial Director Roland Schneider ( acting ) form the board of the Theater Kiel AöR. Opera director Reinhard Linden and Astrid Großgasteiger for the children's and youth theater are artistic directors of the other sections. Ballet director Yaroslav Ivanenko and Heather Jurgensen took over the ballet direction for the 2010/2011 season .

In the season 2007/2008 the theater Kiel celebrated its 100th anniversary. In addition to the program during the season, a summer performance was offered for the first time in 2012 in the form of an open-air performance of the Tosca opera on Kiel's Rathausplatz.
