Daniel Karasek

Daniel Karasek (* 1959 in Munich ) is a German theater director and artistic director . He is general director and director at Theater Kiel .

biography

Karasek is the eldest son of Hellmuth Karasek and his first wife Marvela Ines Mejia-Perez. With his brother Manuel , half-sister Laura (* born 1982) and half-brother Nikolas (born 1985), he has three younger siblings. Born in Munich, he grew up in Stuttgart , Caracas and Hamburg, among others .

During his community service in 1979, Karasek and reporters from the weekly newspaper Die Zeit uncovered glaring grievances in the Alsterdorf Evangelical Foundation with regard to the care provided for people with disabilities .

From 1980 to 1983 collected Daniel Karasek first experience in directing work as assistant of Jürgen Flimm at the Cologne Theater . He then went to the Staatstheater Stuttgart as director and dramaturge and in 1988 was appointed senior director at the Staatstheater Nürnberg . Karasek then worked as a freelance director in Zurich , Caracas and Vienna, among others . In Hamburg he met Jürgen Flimm again and became a member of the board of directors of the Thalia Theater . In Frankfurt am Main and in Mannheim Karasek worked as a university lecturer and worked beside as an independent director.

In 1997 he became acting director at the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden . From 2003 Karasek took over this position at the Theater Kiel , since 2007 he has been general director and directs the drama and opera divisions . He also transmits, u. a. with his former partner Katharina Abt , plays from English into German .
