Playtime (theater)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The season of a theater , concert hall or other cultural establishment begins with the first premiere or performance of a season and ends with the last day of the season. In Germany, the season usually lasts from the beginning of September / October to the end of June / beginning of July.

At publicly owned theaters, contracts are usually concluded for one (or more) season (s). Intendant contracts are also mainly awarded after the season. The “normal” city theater director is initially committed to three seasons. Usually it is then extended by a further three seasons. Then the contract expires.

The statistics of the German Stage Association , i.e. visitor numbers, number of productions, world premieres, most played pieces, mostly staged pieces, etc., are also compiled for a season.

In contrast to this, the theaters' budgets are always based on the calendar year.
