The Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville ( Spanish Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla ) (ROSS) has existed since 1991 and is the orchestra of the Spanish city ​​of Seville and its Teatro de la Maestranza .

The establishment of the orchestra is based on an agreement between the Provincial Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía) and the City Government of Seville in 1990. The first concert took place on January 10, 1991 in the Teatro Lope de Vega. The Royal Attribute was awarded to the orchestra in 1995. The Teatro de la Maestranza , which opened in 1991, is the main venue for the orchestra, both for its concert series and for opera performances. In 2008, the ROSS was the only Spanish orchestra to play in the cultural program of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, In the following year a tour led to all three German-speaking countries. An important focus of the repertoire is on works by Spanish composers - including Federico Chueca , Isaac Albéniz , Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Turina . The orchestra also offers a range of concert programs for children and young people, plays in schools and looks after the next generation.

The first musical director of the ensemble was the Croatian conductor Vjekoslav Šutej (1951–2009). Today - unanimously elected by the members of the orchestra - the American John Neal Axelrod directs the ensemble. The orchestra belongs to the Asociación Española de Orquestas Sinfónicas (Association of Spanish Symphony Orchestras). A number of sound recordings are made, including excerpts from operas by Donizetti , Rossini , Verdi , Massenet , Bizet and Puccini .
