Erich Band
Erich Richard Band (born May 10, 1876 in Berlin , † May 13, 1945 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs ) was a German conductor , choir director and composer . From 1905 to 1924 he was court conductor in Stuttgart. Here he conducted the world premiere of Siegfried Wagner's opera in 1917 . From 1924 to 1932 he was general music director in Halle, where he was in charge of the city theater orchestra .
Life
Erich Band was born in Berlin in 1876 as the son of Professor Oskar Band and his wife Luise Stelter. After attending the Luisenstadt high school , he studied piano and composition at the Royal University of Music from 1894 to 1897 . He also attended the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin .
From 1897/98 he was a trainee Kapellmeister at the Mainz City Theater . In 1898/99 he was 1st Kapellmeister at the Princely Theater Detmold . In 1899 he moved to the Koblenz City Theater . From 1900 to 1902 he worked as a conductor in Berlin. In 1902 he undertook a winter concert tour to the Liegnitz opera of the month. In 1904/04 he was 1st Kapellmeister at the Bremen City Theater and in 1904/05 at the Rostock City Theater .
From 1905 to 1924 he was court conductor in Stuttgart . Here he was responsible for the world premiere of the opera In everything is hats to blame! by Siegfried Wagner . From 1910 he also took over the direction of the Society for Classical Church Music and the Teachers' Choir. He also taught at the Stuttgart University of Music .
In 1924 he became the municipal general music director and opera director in Halle . Accordingly, from 1924 to 1932 he directed the Halle City Theater Orchestra .
Band published u. a. the contribution to the history of the development of the modern orchestra (1910). He also emerged as a composer (inter alia chamber music and songs) and arranged Auber's The Black Domino (Stuttgart 1908) and Weber's Euryanthe (Stuttgart 1923).
He was a board member of the Reich Association of German Tonkünstler and Music Teachers , deputy chairman of the Stuttgart Tonkünstlerverein and sworn expert for music of the chambers for Württemberg, Baden and Hesse.
The band was with the soprano Olga Band-Agloda , geb. Linzer (1872–1941) married. He died shortly after the end of the war in Waidhofen an der Ybbs in occupied post-war Austria .
