Johan M. Arnell

Johan M. Arnell (* 1947 in Kalmar ) is a Swedish conductor . From 1993 to 1996 he was chief conductor of the orchestra of the Halle Opera House .

Life

Johan M. Arnell was born in Kalmar, southern Sweden, in 1947. From 1958 he learned the clarinet and drums . From 1968 to 1975 he studied composition with Alfred Uhl and conducting with Hans Swarowsky at the Vienna Music Academy .

Guest conductors took him to his homeland from 1972, for example to the Kungliga Filharmoniska Orkestern . From 1975 to 1977, from 1984 to 1987 and from 1989 to 1991 he worked at the Kungliga Operan in Stockholm. There he was responsible a. a. the revivals of Wagner's Valkyrie and Mozart's Così fan tutte . In 1974 he made a guest appearance with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria . He also took part in the Carinthian Summer in Carinthia. In 1980 he made his debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin , where he was engaged the following year. In 1986 he was responsible for the resumption of Verdi's Don Carlos in Copenhagen . He then had guest contracts with the Hamburg State Opera (1988) and the Opéra de Marseille (1989). In 1988 he made his debut with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra .

From 1993 to 1996 he succeeded Wolfgang Balzer as chief conductor of the orchestra of the Halle Opera House . He made repeated guest appearances as part of the Kissinger Sommer (1988, 1993–2001, 2004–2005, 2007–2009, 2011–2013, 2015), at which he announced his departure in 2015.
