Chōnosuke Takagi

Chōnosuke Takagi ( Japanese 高木 長 之 助 , Takagi Chōnosuke ; born October 26, 1948 ) is a former Japanese judoka who was world champion in 1973 and third in the heavyweight championship in 1975.

Chōnosuke Takagi won the 1970 Japanese heavyweight championships. In 1972 and 1976 he was second in the heavyweight division. In 1973, 1975 and 1978 he took second place in the championships in the open class.

At the 1973 World Championships in Lausanne, he met Jibilo Nischaradze from the Soviet Union twice . The Japanese lost in the pool finals and qualified for the semi-finals with a victory in the hope round against the Irishman Matthew Folan . In the semifinals he defeated the second representative of the Soviet Union Sergei Novikow . In the final, Takagi won against Nischaradze. Two years later at the World Championships in Vienna in 1975 he lost to Sergei Novikow in the quarterfinals. In the battle for a bronze medal, he won against the Yugoslav Radomir Kovačević . When the Jigoro Kano Cup was held for the first time , Chōnosuke Takagi took third place in the heavyweight division in 1978.
