Jigoro Kano Cup
The Jigoro Kano Cup was an invitation-only tournament in Tokyo in honor of the highest master of judo Jigoro Kano . It was held 15 times from 1978 to 2007 and was one of the most popular judo tournaments. Since 2008, the Grand Slam tournament has been held in succession to the Jigoro Kano Cup .
Winner list 1978
The first Jigoro Kano Cup was held from November 23 to 26, 1978 in Nippon Budōkan and was a consequence of the canceled Judo World Championships in 1977. Dietmar Lorenz from the GDR was the only foreigner to win the tournament.

The Jigoro Kano Cup was held on January 14th and 15th, 2006 in Tokyo. For the first time since 1999, non-Japanese won again with the Austrian Ludwig Paischer , the Italian Francesco Bruyere and the South Korean Hwang Hee-tae .
