Nobutoshi Hikage

Nobutoshi Hikage ( Japanese 日 蔭 暢 年 Hikage Nobutoshi ; * July 9, 1956 ) is a Japanese judoka . He was world champion in 1983 and 1985.

Athletic career

Nobutoshi Hikage competed in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. In 1981 he won the Asian Championships in Jakarta, where he defeated the Taiwanese Ye Hai-Rui in the final. At the end of 1981 he defeated his compatriot Hiromitsu Takano in the final of the Kano Cup in Tokyo . In early 1982 he won the Tournoi de Paris , where he won the final against the Frenchman Jean-Pierre Gibert . At the end of 1982 he defeated Hiromitsu Takano in the final of the Kano Cup, as in the previous year. At the 1983 World Championships in Moscow, he defeated the French Jean-Michel Berthet in the quarterfinals and Schota Chabareli in the semifinalsfrom the Soviet Union. In the final he won against the Briton Neil Adams .

1984 Hikage had a weaker year, Hiromitsu Takano won the Asian Championships and finished fifth in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At the 1985 World Championships in Seoul Nobutoshi Hikage was back at the start. In his first fight he defeated Neil Adams, his opponent in the final from 1983. This was followed by victories over the Canadian Kevin Doherty in the round of 16. the Italian Giorgio Vismara in the quarter-finals and the Poles Waldemar Legień in the semi-finals. With his final victory against Torsten Bréchôt from the GDR, Hikage won his second world title.
