Guillaume Elmont

Guillaume Ricaldo Elmont (born August 10, 1981 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch judoka . In 2005 he was world champion in light middleweight, the weight class up to 81 kilograms.

Career

Guillaume Elmont was seventh in the Junior World Championships in 2000 and won the title at the Junior European Championships in lightweight. In 2001 he switched to light middleweight, in this weight class he was eleven times in a row Dutch champions from 2001 to 2011. In 2002 he finished seventh at the European Championships in Maribor. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he was eliminated in his first fight against Mehman Əzizov from Azerbaijan after 4:08 minutes.

In 2005 he won the Super World Cup tournament in Paris. At the European Championships in Rotterdam in 2005 he reached the semi-finals, after defeats against the German Ole Bischof and the Poland Robert Krawczyk , he finished fifth. Three and a half months later at the World Championships in Cairo , he defeated the Estonian Aleksei Budõlin in the quarter -finals, the Ukrainian Roman Hontjuk in the semifinals and the Algerian Abderahman Benamadi in the final . In 2006 he lost to the Belarusian Sjarhej Schundsikau in the second round of the European Championships . With four wins in the hopes Elmont won a bronze medal. The next year he met Sjarhej Schundsikau again in the semi-finals of the European Championships and lost, defeating Ole Bischof in the battle for a bronze medal. At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, he was defeated in the quarter-finals by the British Euan Burton , after three wins in the round of hope he received a bronze medal. A month later he won the World Military Games. At the European Championships in 2008 he won his first four fights and only lost to the Portuguese João Neto in the final . Four months later, he reached the semifinals with three wins at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . After his defeat against the South Korean Kim Jae-bum , he also lost the battle for a bronze medal against the Brazilian Tiago Camilo .

In 2010 Guillaume Elmont won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Vienna , after losing to the Russian Sirazhudin Magomedov . At the 2010 World Championships he finished seventh after losing to Kim Jae-bum in the quarterfinals and Euan Burton in the round of hope. Two years later he was eliminated from the 2012 Olympic Games in London in his first fight against Frenchman Alain Schmitt . He won his last international medal at the European Championships held as part of the 2015 European Games when he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division.

In 2016 Guillaume Elmont ended his career as an active athlete. He works as a fitness trainer at Ajax Amsterdam . He is the son of the Surinamese Olympian Ricardo Elmont and the older brother of Dex Elmont .
