At the XXVIII. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , 14 judo competitions were held, seven each for men and women. The venue was the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall .
The Iranian judoka Ārash Miresmāeli , two-time world champion in the light weight division , caused a scandal . He refused to play against the Israeli Ehud Vaks in the first round . However, Miresmāeli would not have been able to take part in the competition anyway because he was too heavy in weight control.
