Catherine Jacques (born September 28, 1979 in Merksem , Antwerp ) is a former Belgian judoka . She was world championship third in 2005 and four times European championship third.

Athletic career

The 1.77 m tall Catherine Jacques was third in the 1996 U19 World Light Heavyweight Championships. In 1997 she won a bronze middleweight medal at the European Junior Championships. In 1998 she won silver in the middleweight division at the Junior World Championships and at the Junior European Championships.

In 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 she was Belgian middleweight champion, the weight class up to 70 kilograms. In 2000, 2008, 2009 and 2010 she won the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. In 2001 she won the silver medal in the middleweight division at the Universiade in Beijing. In 2002 she finished fifth at the European Championships after two wins and two defeats. In 2003 she was only defeated by the Austrian Silvia Schlagnitweit and won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Düsseldorf. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she was defeated in the quarterfinals against the Japanese Masae Ueno . After two victories in the round of hope, she was defeated by the German Annett Böhm in the battle for bronze. At the European Championships in 2005 she lost to the Italian Ylenia Scapin in the semifinals and won bronze by beating the Slovenian Raša Sraka . Three and a half months later at the World Championships in Cairo, she lost in the quarter-finals to the French Gévrise Émane , with three wins in the round of hope, she won her second bronze medal of the year. In 2006 she won bronze again at the European Championships in Tampere. After a semi-final defeat against the German Heide Wollert , she defeated the Spaniard Cecilia Blanco in the fight for a medal. In 2007 she finished fifth at the European Championships, in 2008 she was seventh. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , she was eliminated in the first fight against Ylenia Scapin. In 2009 she won bronze at the European Championships after losing to French Lucie Décosse and victories against Italian Erica Barbieri and Spaniard Cecilia Blanco .

In 2010 Catherine Jacques moved to the light heavyweight division. At the 2010 World Championships , she was eliminated in the round of 16 against the French Celine Lebrun . After her first round defeat against the Russian Vera Moskaljuk at the 2011 World Championships in Paris, Catherine Jacques ended her international career.
