Annett Böhm (born January 8, 1980 in Meerane ) is a former German judoka .

When she was seven, Annett Böhm started judo at PSV Glauchau / Meerane . From 1995 she attended the sports high school in Leipzig and trained at the Olympic base there .

In 2009 she ended her career in the German national team after 15 years of competitive sport.

After studying sport at the University of Leipzig and a second degree in journalism, she worked as a freelance radio and print journalist. Since May 2014 she has been a member of the media team of the European Judo Union and comments on the live broadcast for the International Judo Federation . The freelance journalist also works for MDR , among other things as a sports presenter for Sachsenspiegel .

She celebrated her first successes in 1997 when she won the gold medal at the Junior European Championships (JEM) in Ljubljana ; two years later she won silver.

In 2000 she was fifth at the European Championships in Wroclaw . A year later she won her first championship title at the German Championships.

At the Judo World Championships in Osaka in 2003 , Annett Boehm surprisingly achieved third place. This qualified her for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .

At the Olympic Games she reached the semifinals with victories over the World Cup fifth Quin Dongya from the People's Republic of China and Catherine Roberge from Canada . There she was defeated by the Dutch Edith Bosch . In the battle for bronze, Annett Böhm made short work of the Belgian Catherine Jacques . After 38 seconds, Annett was able to successfully set a Te-Guruma and thus win the fight prematurely. She secured the bronze medal .

The year 2005 was marked by several operations. Six weeks before the Judo World Championships in Cairo (2005), she broke her right metatarsus. Despite this injury, Annett was able to surprisingly fight for fifth place.

The bad luck with injuries continued in 2006. Because of a protracted back injury, she could not qualify for participation in the European Judo Championships .

World Judo Championship 2007 in Brazil

In the pre-Olympic year, Annett Böhm qualified for the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro (2007). There she took ninth place.

In 2008 Annett Böhm was able to find her way back to her old form. She won the bronze medal at the Super World Cups in Paris and Sofia . This placed her in second place in the European rankings and qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

During the fights in Beijing , Annett Böhm won the first three fights with Ippon ahead of time. In the first fight she won against the Senegalese Mendy Gisaele with a throw of the hand ( Te-Guruma ). With a large inner sickle ( O-Uchi-Gari ) she defeated Nataliya Smal from Ukraine in the following fight . She played the pool final against the Spaniard Leire Iglesias . After just a few seconds, Böhm won with a full point (Ippon) thanks to a remarkable lifting technique ( Kata-Guruma ).

So she was in the final against Anaysi Hernandez from Cuba . After a Yuko for Tomoe-Nage (sacrificial technique) scored at the beginning, Annett Böhm did not manage to keep this lead and was defeated a little later with Ippon for an O-Uchi-Gari (large inner sickle). In the following battle for bronze, Böhm and Yuko (middle rating) lost to Koka (small rating) against the American Ronda Rousey .

So she finished fifth at the Olympic Games in Beijing and was the best German athlete of the German Judo Association (DJB).

After more than 15 years of competitive sport, Annett Böhm ended her judo career in the German national team in autumn 2009.

Professional background

In October 2009 Annett Böhm successfully completed her journalism course, a distance learning course at ILS Hamburg.

After several internships in the sports editorial offices of the German Press Agency (dpa), the MDR and the ZDF , she became involved in the Leipzig training broadcaster Radio Mephisto 97.6 as the person responsible for the sports department until summer 2010 .

After Annett Böhm had written as a freelance journalist for various newspapers, from January 2011 she worked as a trainee for the Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ) for a year. From March 2012 to August 2013 she completed an internship at the MDR. Since then she has been working as a freelance journalist for the MDR in the editorial offices of Hauptsache Gesundheit and for the sports department. She has also been in front of the camera since December 2016. In addition to Almut Rudel and Marc Huster, she moderates the sport in Sachsenspiegel .

She has been a member of the media team of the European Judo Union since May 2014 and supports the media work of the Continental Association. In addition to competition reports and social media, she also comments on the EJU live stream.

After the Olympic Games in Beijing, she began to comment on the live broadcasts of international judo tournaments as an expert. Since this year she has been one of the two official commentators of the International Judo Federation (IJF). Together with Sheldon Franco-Rooks, she comments on IJF tournaments in the live stream.

She is also involved with the German Judo Federation (DJB). Together with Sören Starke , she accompanies the German national teams (seniors and juniors) through the media at the competition highlights. In 2018 she worked for the first time as a commentator for the sports channel Sport1 and commented on the Judo Grand Slam in Düsseldorf.

In 2015, 2016 and 2017 she moderated the Central German Olympic Ball together with Roman Knoblauch .

She also volunteers for concept4sport , where she supported the media training for Leipzig's Olympic starters for London 2012, among other things. She is a member of the Leipziger Sportlöwen eV and now actively plays mat bouncing balls . In December 2014, she took third place at the 4th mat bounce ball tournament.
