The System Administrator Appreciation Day ( english appreciation "recognition") is an annual day of remembrance to system administrators . It was invented by Ted Kekatos and has been taking place on the last Friday in July since 2000. Kekatos was inspired by an ad from Hewlett-Packard in which a system administrator was thanked by employees with flowers and fruit baskets for installing new printers.

The day of remembrance is intended to thank the system administrator, who usually goes about his tasks in the background - without attracting much attention - once a year for his good work . Although the creation of this memorial day certainly has some humorous aspects, the serious background behind it is also to thank the people whose work you don't always notice immediately and whom you usually only call out when something goes wrong.

The System Administrator Appreciation Day is not a nationally or internationally recognized day of remembrance.
