Marc Huster (born July 1, 1970 in Altdöbern ) is a former German weightlifter and current sports commentator.

Athletic career

Marc Huster grew up in Lübbenau and started weightlifting there in 1981 . Since he was quickly noticed by his great talent, he was delegated to the children's and youth sports school in Dresden in 1983 . The juniors soon saw their first successes. In 1989 and 1990 Huster achieved good placements at the European Junior Championships and World Junior Championships. He was able to build on his successes with senior citizens. Marc Huster has been world and European champion several times over the course of his ten-year career and won two Olympic silver medals at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games . Both times he had to give way to his long-term rival and friend Pyrros Dimas . At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , only his body weight, which was 160 g higher than that of the Greek, was decisive, after both had achieved the same duel result.

For winning the silver medals at the Summer Olympics in 1996 and 2000 he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf.

Marc Huster was a real “show” talent. Due to his sympathetic, friendly manner, he contributed a lot to the popularity of weightlifting in Germany in the 1990s . When he finally had to resign due to an injury in 2002, he left a large void. The clubs he started for in the Bundesliga were SV “Blaue Schwerter” Meißen , Chemnitzer AC and Riesaer AC .

Personal

After graduating from high school in 1990, Marc Huster began studying medicine, which he gave up a year later in favor of his sporting career. From 1991 to 1994 he trained as an industrial clerk. After completing his active career, Marc Huster completed a degree in sports, event and marketing management at the State Study Academy in Riesa with a degree in business administration (BA). Since 1997 Huster has been working as a commentator for the TV station Eurosport , where he mainly comments on weightlifting broadcasts. Since 2002 he has also been working for Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk .
