The 13th Women's Weightlifting World Championships and the 70th Men's Weightlifting World Championships took place from November 20th to 28th, 1999 in the Greek city ​​of Athens . 231 women and 395 weightlifters from 88 nations took part in the competitions held by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in one-on-one (snatch and push) .
