Leonidas Kokas ( Greek Λεωνίδας Κόκας , born June 3, 1973 in Korçë , Albania ) is a former Greek weightlifter .

Career

Koka's international career began with participating in the 1994 World Championships in Istanbul . In the middle-heavy weight category up to 91 kg, he took seventh place with a duel of 360.0 kg (160.0 / 200.0 kg). First placed Alexei Petrow achieved 412.5 kg. For his next appearance at the European Championships in Warsaw in 1995, he increased to 382.5 kg (170.0 / 212.5 kg) in a duel and finished fourth with this result. His achievement in pushing meant silver in this sub-discipline.

In the 1996 Olympic year, Kokas took part in the EU Cup and the European Championships, where he scored 365.0 kg (165.0 / 200.0 kg) and 362.5 kg (162.5 / 200.0 kg). Both were achievements with which he would have had no chance of a medal at the Olympic Games. However, he was able to surprise in Atlanta with 390.0 kg (175.0 / 215.0 kg) and won silver behind Petrow with 402.5 kg and in front of Oliver Caruso , who also scored 390.0 kg but was heavier.

After Kokas did not take part in any international competitions in 1997, he started again in 1998 for the first time in the middle heavyweight division, which now had a limit of 94 kg after changing the weight classes. At the EU championships in Rum and the EM in Riesa he was able to bring in 365.0 kg in the duel, but increased again to 392.5 kg (175.0 / 217.5 kg) for the world championship in Lahti and won bronze behind his compatriot Akakios Kachiasvilis with 400.0 kg and Caruso with 395.0 kg.

Kokas also finished third at the 1999 World Cup in Athens . With a performance of 402.5 kg (185.0 / 217.5 kg) he placed behind Kachiasvilis with 412.5 kg and Szymon Kołecki with 405.0 kg. Kokas competed in his last international competition at the 2001 World Cup in Antalya , where he finished sixth with 390.0 kg (177.5 / 212.5 kg).
