Agata Wróbel

Agata Ewa Wróbel (born August 28, 1981 in Żywiec ) is a Polish weightlifter.

Career

Agata Wróbel grew up in Zywiec in southern Poland. She started lifting weights at the age of 15 and a short time later became Polish champion in the - open top - heavyweight division (at that time over 83 kg body weight). She later moved to the training center for Polish weightlifters in Siedlce in eastern Poland. She won medals at many international championships and won silver at the 2000 Summer Olympics and bronze in 2004. At the World Championships in 2003 and 2005 she finished 7th and 5th respectively. At the European Championships in 2006 in Władysławowo , she was not at the start. In 2004/2005 her body weight was around 120 kg.

In 2006 Agata Wrobel had to end her career due to a persistent injury. The Polish Weightlifting Association then stopped financial support for them. Since Agata Wrobel saw no way of making a living in Poland, she went to England and worked there in a garbage sorting plant in Peterborough . Meanwhile, it is fitness trainer and participates in England in competitions in powerlifting (powerlifting).

At the 2010 European Weightlifting Championships in Minsk , she reached 8th place with 215 kg in the overall ranking (= 95 kg + 120 kg) in only one valid attempt.

  • 1999, 1st place , EM in A Coruña , over 75 kg body weight, with 262.5 kg, ahead of Albina Chomitsch , Russia , 260 kg and Vita Rudenok, Ukraine , 235 kg;
  • 1999, 1st place , June World Championships in Savannah / USA , over 75 kg body weight, with 265 kg, ahead of Cheryl Haworth , USA, 250 kg and Mun Kyung-Ae , Korea , 227.5 kg;
  • 1999, 2nd place , World Championships in Athens , over 75 kg, with 280 kg, behind Meiyuan Ding , China, 285 kg and in front of Balkusu Musa, Nigeria , 252.5 kg;
  • 2000, unplaced , EM in Sofia , over 75 kg body weight, 3 failed attempts in snatching, gold medal with 160 kg in pushing (world record);
  • 2000, 1st place , June World Championships in Prague , over 75 kg body weight, with 290 kg, ahead of Cheryl Haworth, 252.5 kg and Viktoria Varga, Hungary, 227.5 kg;
