Tang Gonghong

Tang Gonghong ( Chinese  唐 功 紅  /  唐 功 红 , Pinyin Táng Gōnghóng , born March 5, 1979 in Yantai ) is a Chinese weightlifter .

Career

Tang Gonghong is from Yantai in Shandong Province . Already as a teenager she showed a good disposition for weightlifting and was admitted to the Jiangsu Province Sports School in 1994 and the Nanjing City Sports School in 1997 . In 1997 she made the leap into the Chinese national weightlifting team. She landed her first major international success as a nineteen year old completely unknown in weightlifting in 1998 when she became world heavyweight champion in Lahti . The 1.72 m tall and approx. 120 kg heavy athlete achieved a special achievement at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , when she only managed 122.5 kg in the snatch, 7.5 kg behind the South Korean Jang Mi-Ran was lying, managed 182.5 kg in the push and still overtook the South Korean, who had pushed 172.5 kg. At the same time, she managed a world record in a duel with 305 kg, which was improved in 2006 by Jang Mi-Ran to 318 kg.

  • 2002, 3rd place , World Championships in Warsaw , over 75 kg body weight, with 277.5 kg, behind Agata Wrobel , Poland , 287.5 kg and Albina Chomitsch , Russia , 282.5 kg;
  • 2004, 1st place , Asian Games in Almaty , Kazakhstan , over 75 kg body weight, with 302.5 kg, ahead of Geeta Rani, India , 240 kg and Ludmilla Kanonowa, Kazakhstan, 237.5 kg;
  • 2004, gold medal, OS in Athens , S, with 305 kg, ahead of Jang Mi-Ran, South Korea, 302.5 kg and Agata Wrobel, 290 kg
