Cheryl Haworth

Cheryl Haworth (born April 18, 1983 in Savannah , Georgia ) is an American weightlifter.

Career

Cheryl Haworth grew up in Savannah as a child of athletic parents. Initially she played softball as a child , but soon became interested in weightlifting and began to train at the Anderson / Cohen Weightlifting Center in Savannah at the age of 13 with the support of her parents. At the age of 15 she won her first USA championship in the weight class over 75 kg. With her trainer Michael Cohen, who himself was an Olympic athlete in weightlifting, she trained five times a week and from 1999 onwards she always qualified for participation in the Olympic Games or World Championships. Already at the age of 17 she won the bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the Olympic Games in Sydney , which she followed in 2005 with a bronze medal at the World Championships in Doha . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she reached 6th place with a duel of 280 kg and in 2008 in Beijing with 259 kg.

Chery Haworth still lives in Savannah and is a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
