Mu Shuangshuang (born July 1, 1984 ) is a Chinese weightlifter .

Career

At the World Championships for women in weightlifting in Doha in 2005, surprisingly, China used the 20-year-old Mu Shuangshuang in the heavyweight division (over 75 kg body weight). She delivered a courageous fight to the favored silver medalist from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Jang Mi-Ran from South Korea and was defeated in the same duel of 300 kg because of her higher body weight of 131.77 kg compared to 115.12 kg for Jang. It seemed as if China had already found her successor for the Olympic champions Meiyuan Ding (2000) and Gonghong Tang (2004) for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . At the Chinese championships in 2006, Mu however disappointed and only finished fifth with 285 kg in a duel.

However, by the 2006 World Cup in Santo Domingo, Mu Shuangshuang was in excellent shape and achieved there with 136 kg in the snatch and 178 kg in the push, a total of 314 kg for the duel, the same performance as the South Korean Jang Mi-Ran, who had overcome 135 kg in snatch and 179 kg in push. At 113.52 kg, Jang Mi-Ran was considerably lighter than Mu Shuangshuang (130.91 kg) and thus became world champion.

At the 2007 World Championships in Chiang Mai / Thailand, Mu Shuangshuang and Jang Mi-Ran once again fought a fascinating duel. Both athletes achieved the world record load of 319 kg in a duel. The winner was Jang Mi-Ran again because of her body weight advantage of almost 20 kg. After Mu had a lead of 139 kg to 138 kg in the snatch, Jang could wait while pushing to see what load Mu had to handle and then pushing only 1 kg more than Mu had to push. Jang Mi-Ran succeeded in doing this with 181 kg to 180 kg by Mu.
