Chen Yanqing ( Chinese  陳豔青  /  陈豔青 , Pinyin Chén Yànqīng , born April 5, 1979 in Suzhou (Jiangsu) ) is a Chinese weightlifter.

Career

Chen is from Suzhou in Jiangsu Province . She started lifting weights when she was 11. After regional successes in the youth field, she became a member of the Jiangsu provincial team in 1994 and a year later a member of the Chinese national team. At the age of 18 she was the first world champion in the class up to 64 kg body weight. In 1999 she repeated this success in the class up to 58 kg body weight. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 she could not start because the People's Republic of China received only four starting places in six weight classes for women from the International Weightlifting Association. In 2001 she retired from active sports, studied at the University of Suzhou and also worked as a trainer in the provincial selection. Before the Olympic Games in Athens , however, the ambition grabbed her again and she started training again in 2003. The result was the 2004 Olympic victory in the class up to 58 kg body weight.

On August 11, 2008, Chen Yanqing repeated her Olympic victory in Beijing in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight. She achieved 106 kg in snatch and 138 kg in thrust, for a total of 244 kg. She was the first female weightlifter to become an Olympic champion for the second time. She also held the world record in pushing in the weight class up to 58 kg for many years at 140 kg.

After the 2008 Olympic Games, Chen Yanqing went to Canada to study sports management.
