Maryse Turcotte

Maryse Turcotte (born February 23, 1975 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a Canadian weightlifter .

Career

Maryse was a spectator in a weightlifting competition at her high school in Sherbrooke in 1990 and has been passionate about weightlifting from then on . She began training under the direction of Simon Garand and started in 1991 in competitions in the junior area. In 1992, Pierre Bergeron became her trainer, with whom she has worked for many years and with whom she is now married. At the age of 19 she moved to Brossard . At the age of 17 she started in the Canadian championships for the first time in 1992 and won in the weight class up to 56 kg body weight. In 1994 she made her first international start at the North American and Caribbean Championships (NACACI), where she also won in her weight class. From 1995 she was at all world championships and Olympic Games and always achieved excellent placements. She did not succeed in winning a medal in a duel, but in 1998 she became the runner-up world champion in pushing.

Maryse is studying economics at the University of Montreal and also works in a clinic.
