Sukanya Srisurat

Sukanya Srisurat ( Thai สุ กัญญา ศรี สุ ราช , nickname Fai ( ฝ้าย ); born May 3, 1995 in Chon Buri Province ) is a Thai weightlifter . In 2016 she became Olympic champion in the weight class up to 58 kg in Rio de Janeiro .

Career

Sukanya Srisurat started her career in 2011 at the Youth World Cup in Lima. In the weight class up to 58 kg body weight, she achieved 186 kg (75–111) in a duel. With this performance she was second behind the Chinese Meng Shanshan. During the doping control , however, she tested positive for metandienone and banned for two years. She had to return the medal.

After her suspension, she reached sixth place in the class up to 58 kg at the 2013 Asian Championships . In 2014 she won at the World Championships with 231 kg silver in a duel behind the Chinese Deng Mengrong, who came to 235 kg (105-130). With 106 kg Sukanya Srisurat won gold in the snatch.

At the Asian Championships in 2015 , she won the gold medal with 225 kg (104-121). At the World Championships in the same year she finished in a duel with 227 kg (106-121) only 4th place, but won bronze in the tear.

Sukanya Srisurat achieved the greatest success of her career at the 2016 Olympic Games . She increased her duel best in Rio de Janeiro to 240 kg (110-130) and won the gold medal in front of her compatriot Pimsiri Sirikaew and Kuo Hsing-chun.

At the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim, she only weighed 225 kg (105-120). With this performance she nevertheless reached 2nd place behind Kuo Hsing-chun. In the tear she even became world champion.
