Pimsiri Sirikaew ( Thai : พิ ม ศิริ ศิริ แก้ว ; born April 25, 1990 in Khon Kaen ) is a Thai weightlifter . She won the silver medal in the weight class up to 58 kg at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Career

Pimsiri Sirikaew started lifting weights as a teenager in her hometown, Khon Kaen, where she still lives. It is 1.49 meters tall and starts in the weight class up to 58 kg body weight.

She made her first start in an international championship in 2008. She became Junior World Champion in Cali / Colombia (age group U 18). Their performance was 211 kg (91-120) in a duel. In 2009 she was used at the World Championships for Women in Goyang / South Korea . She achieved there in a duel 205 kg (90-115) and thus took 5th place in the weight class up to 58 kg.

In 2010 she took part in the Junior World Championship (U 20) in Sofia and weighed 210 kg (90-120) in a duel. With this performance she finished second behind the Chinese Deng Mengrong, who reached 221 kg (98-123). In the same year she started at the Women's World Championship in Antalya. There she reached 207 kg (89-118) and landed on the 8th place.

While Pimsiri Sirikaew stagnated in terms of performance in 2009 and 2010, in 2011 she finally made a strong leap in performance. She reached at the 2011 World Championships in Paris in a duel 230 kg (99-131) and thus won the bronze medal behind Nastassja Nowikawa , Belarus, 237 (101-136) and Li Xueying , China, 236 kg (103-133). With her shock performance of 131 kg she won another bronze medal.

In the 2012 Olympic year she was Asian champion in Pyoengtaek / South Korea with a performance of 231 kg (100-131) ahead of Kuo Hsing-Chun, Taiwan, 228 kg (98-13). Well prepared, she then started at the Olympic Games in London in July 2012 . She achieved the new personal best of 236 kg (100-136) in a duel and won the silver medal behind Li Xueying, who achieved 246 kg (108-138).

In July 2013 she started at the Universiade in Kazan. She was there but not in good shape and achieved in a duel only 216 kg (95-121), which only reached 4th place in the weight class up to 58 kg.

At the beginning of 2014 Pimsiri Sirikaew switched to the weight class up to 63 kg. She started in this weight class for the first time in June 2014 at an international tournament in Khon Kean / Thailand. She achieved a very good 251 kg (108–143) as the winner in a duel. At the Asian Games in Incheon / South Korea in September 2014, she did not quite come close to this performance. She managed in a duel 242 kg (108-134) and took 5th place. At the World Championships in November 2014 in Almaty, she achieved in a duel 246 kg (108-138) and again took 5th place.
