geography

Chon Buri is located on the Bay of Bangkok and thus on the Gulf of Thailand . The province is located in the catchment area of Bangkok , which is about 80 kilometers northwest.

A low mountain range extends through the province from northwest to southeast. The fertile plain in the north has been used for agriculture for a long time . Sattahip in the south is one of the few deep sea ports in the country.

The most famous city of the province is probably less the provincial capital than the city of Pattaya , one of the tourist centers of Thailand.

Adjacent provinces and areas:
north Chachoengsao
east Chanthaburi
south Rayong
west Coast to the Gulf of Thailand

climate

The climate is tropical - monsoonal . In 2009 there were 127 rainy days with a rainfall of 1574.4  mm . The maximum temperature in the same period was 35.8 ° C, the minimum temperature 18.8 ° C.

Economy and Importance

The tourism is significant because of the beautiful sandy beaches and the protected location of the province. In addition, there is agriculture that consists less of rice cultivation , but rather forms more tapioca and coconut plantations and processes sugar cane , as well as fishing , which is carried out near the coast but also in the deep sea.

Many manufacturing companies have settled in order to use the convenient transport links to the deep sea port of Sattahip and to avoid the constant traffic chaos in the capital. The economic area of Thailand's East Coast (Eastern Seabord) , the core of which is in the province of Chon Buri, has developed into the second most important industrial region in the country after the greater Bangkok area. In 2011, the container port of Laem Chabang was the 23rd among the most visited container ports in the world, with a turnover of 5.73 million TEU (slightly less than the Bremerhaven container terminal ).

The "Gross Provincial Product" ( GDP ) of the province in 2011 amounted to 635.605 billion baht (about 15.5 billion euros). This made it the third most economically important in the country and after Rayong the second most important outside of the greater Bangkok area. This corresponds to an annual economic output of 522,511 baht per capita (approx. 12,800 euros), also the third highest value nationwide.

The top performing industry was manufacturing, which generated 370.3 billion baht. It was followed by wholesale and retail with 66.6 billion, transport, storage and communication with 38 billion, and energy and water supply with 36 billion baht. Agriculture and fishing, on the other hand, accounted for 20.3 billion baht and the hotel and restaurant industry for 20 billion baht.

The minimum wage has been 196 baht (around 5 euros) per day since January 1, 2011.

A branch of the east line of the Thai State Railways runs through Chon Buri Province. Chon Buri, Bang Lamung and Pattaya are served once a day from Bangkok. The route ends in the small town of Ban Plu Ta Luang, Amphoe Sattahip . Since 2007, additional freight lines from the port of Laem Chabang to Bangkok- Lat Krabang and to Nakhon Ratchasima in northeast Thailand have been under construction. A high-speed line is planned from Bangkok via Chon Buri to Rayong. According to the Ministry of Transport (as of March 2013), the section to Pattaya is to be put into operation in 2018.

Street

Chon Buri is connected to Bangkok by the eight-lane, toll road Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway (National Road 7). There is also the older Thanon Sukhumvit (the main eastern arterial road of Bangkok; National Road 3), which leads through Chon Buri and Pattaya to Rayong and to the Cambodian border.

In Si Racha there is also an offshoot of the renowned private Assumption School run by the Gabrielist Brothers .

history

Chon Buri has a long history that goes back to the Khmer times. After the Khmer were pushed back, the kingdom of Ayutthaya took control and never gave it up. After the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, Chon Buri was also nominally placed under Burmese rule, but their occupation forces were not strong enough to rule the country. General Taksin gathered troops and initially went to Rayong and Chon Buri with 500 followers to gather more strength and wait for a favorable opportunity. After the Burmese were driven out of Siam, Taksin then founded the new capital Thonburi , which today forms part of Bangkok.

He became the mayor of Saen Suk (known for the seaside resort of Bang Saen ) and when he was promoted to town, he became its mayor.
