The Burapha University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย บูรพา , such as University of the East is) one of the major public universities in Thailand with three campuses.
location
All three campuses are in the eastern region of Thailand. The campus Chon Buri is located in the city Bang Saen in the province of Chon Buri . The Chanthaburi campus is located in Tha Mai County in the Chanthaburi Province . The Sa Kaeo campus is located in the Watthana Nakhon district in the Sa Kaeo province .
history
The forerunner of the university was the Bang Saen Pedagogical College , which was opened in 1955 as a branch of the Pedagogical College in Bangkok's Soi Prasanmit (precursor of the Srinakharinwirot University ). It was Thailand's first teacher training college outside the capital, Bangkok . In 1974 the college was integrated into the Srinakharinwirot University as a separate campus and was henceforth named Srinakharinwirot University, Campus Bang Saen . The Bang Saen campus has now expanded its range of courses to include other courses in addition to teaching. In 1988 the cabinet decided that the Bang Saen campus should be spun off into an independent university for eastern Thailand. On July 29, 1990, the existing university was renamed Burapha University , after the educational word for "East" (from Sanskrit pūrva ). The Chanthaburi site was established in 1996 and the Sa Kaeo site in 1997. The legal status of Burapha University has been that of an autonomous university under state supervision since 1998.
