The University of Ubon Ratchathani ( Thai : มหาวิทยาลัย อุบลราชธานี , English: Ubon Ratchathani University, short: UBU) is a university in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .
Ubon Ratchathani University was established in 1987 as the campus of Khon Kaen University . In 1990 it received the status of an independent university.
The university campus is located about 15 kilometers south of the city of Ubon Ratchathani in the district ( Amphoe ) Warin Chamrap of the province of Ubon Ratchathani and extends over about eight km². In 2008 the university had 12,481 students, most of them from the Isan, particularly from the south and east of the region.
