University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce

The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย หอการค้าไทย , RTGS : Mahawitthayalai Hokankha Thai , English University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce , short: UTCC) is a private educational institution in the Din Daeng district of the Thai capital Bangkok .

In 1940 the commercial college was opened in Bangkok, which at the time offered six-month and two-year courses and was the first non-governmental university in Thailand. Around 300 students were initially enrolled. During the Japanese occupation in World War II , the trade college was closed and only reopened in 1963. The first bachelor's degree courses were offered in 1967. The institution moved to its current location in 1973. In 1984 the Handelskolleg was one of the first four private universities in the country to be upgraded to a university.

In May 2012, around 19,269 students were studying bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce.

In the QS World University Ranking 2013, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce took fifth place within Thailand in communication and media studies.
