Jerry Page (* 15. January 1961 in Columbus ( Ohio )) is a retired American boxer . He was 1984 Olympic champions at the Summer Games in Los Angeles in the light welterweight .

Amateur career

Jerry Page started boxing as a teenager in his hometown of Columbus. His first major success was winning the runner-up title at the 1982 US light welterweight championship. He lost the final against Henry Hughes on points. In the same year he was used in two international matches. He won it in Rapid City over the Yugoslav Srboljub Maric on points, while he lost on points in Reno against the reigning world champion Carlos García from Cuba .

In 1983, Page won another international match against the Soviet athlete Vasily Schischow , who became world champion in 1986, in Las Vegas on points. At the Pan American Games in Caracas in 1983 he was defeated in the final against Candelario Duvergel from Cuba on points. At the end of 1983 Page met again at a challenge tournament of the AIBA in Reno on Carlos Garcia and was defeated again on points.

The high point in Jerry Page's career was the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He presented himself there in excellent form and won with points over Helmut Gertel from the Federal Republic of Germany (5: 0), Octavio Robles, Mexico (5: 0), Kim Dong-Kil, South Korea (4: 1), Mirko Puzović , Yugoslavia (5-0) and Dhawee Umponmaha , Thailand (5-0) the gold medal .

After these Olympics, Jerry Page converted to professional boxers.

Profile career

His first fight as a professional contested Jerry Page on July 17, 1985 in Akron (Ohio) against James Vozar and won by technical knockout in the first round. He remained undefeated in his first eight fights, but lost the ninth fight against the American lightweight champion Terrence Alli in Atlantic City (New Jersey) on points. After two more wins, Jerry Page was defeated in 1989 against Raul Torres and Frankie Randall , a later WBA light welterweight champion, and in 1990 against Rodney Moore. He then ended his professional career without having achieved any notable success.

Jerry Page runs the Jerry Page Boxing & Fitness Center in Hilliard, Ohio.
