The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Asian Institute of Technology) provides training in engineering , advanced technologies , management and planning . It is based north of Bangkok in Pathum Thani , central Thailand .

History and task

The Asian Institute of Technology was founded in 1959 as the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering to train highly qualified and dedicated engineers who would play a leading role in the continued development of Southeast Asia and support the integration of the region into the globalized economy . Initially only by the members of SEATO , the institute is now funded by institutions worldwide.

Until November 1967 the school was maintained by the Faculty of Engineering at Chulalongkorn University before it was established as an independent institute.

In 2006, the Asian Institute of Technology claimed a leadership role in continuing education for graduates in the region, working with both the public and private sectors and some of the best universities in the world.

location

The institute's campus is located right next to the Rangsit Center of Thammasat University in Pathum Thani, about 40 km north of Bangkok city center. Not far away is the Pathum Thani Science Park . In addition to the campus in Thailand, there are further branches in Vietnam (AIT Center Vietnam, in Hanoi since 1993 ) and centers in planning in Indonesia and Pakistan .

The Asian Institute of Technology consists of three schools, the AIT extension, the AIT centers in Vietnam and Indonesia. President is Said Irandoust.

  • School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD)
  • School of Management (SOM)

Awards

In 1989 the Asian Institute of Technology received the Ramon Magsaysay Prize for Peace and International Understanding "for the creation of a new generation of engineers and managers who work for Asia in an atmosphere of scientific efficiency and regional understanding".

Ranking

In the 2013 QS World University Ranking , the AIT came second in geo and marine sciences, and fourth in civil engineering, accounting and finance within Thailand.
