Dhurakij Pundit University
The Dhurakij Pundit University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย ธุรกิจ บัณฑิตย์ , RTGS Mahawitthayalai Thurakit Bandit [ tʰúrákìt bandìt ], English Dhurakij Pundit University - DPU; thurakit means “business” in Thai, bandit “academics”) is a private university in Thailand based in Laksi District , Bangkok .
history
Dhurakij Pundit University was founded in 1968 as a private university. Shortly after starting college, both the number of students and the courses increased rapidly. In 1984 it was one of the first four private universities in Thailand to be upgraded to universities. The first president of the university was Dr. Sawai Suthipitak, who headed the university from 1984 until his death in 1994.
Today it forms one of the larger private universities in the country with around 20,000 students.
Since 2005, the university has also offered international courses in English or Chinese as part of its International College (DPUIC). In 2010, the Chinese-speaking branch was spun off and expanded into the KUST-DPU Chinese International College in cooperation with the University of Science and Technology Kunming (KUST). In 2015 the result was the China- ASEAN International College (CAIC) and the also fully Chinese-speaking International College of Social Sciences and Communication (ICSC).
