The Payap University ( Thai : มหาวิทยาลัย พายัพ , PIH) is a private Thai University in Chiang Mai , northern Thailand . Payap University was the first private university in Thailand. The word p (h) ayap means "northwest" and is the traditional name of the Chiang Mai region. It is worn by the Evangelical Church of Christ in Thailand .

History and general

Payap University goes back to the Theological Seminary Thailand, which was founded in 1888. This seminar is embedded in McGilvary Theological College today. In 1974 this resulted in the private university Payap College, supported by the Church of Christ in Thailand. In 1984 it was one of the first four private universities in Thailand to receive university status. The university is one of the founding members of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions in Thailand and the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning . It is mainly used for training in liberal arts and pre-professional training and offers 27 pre-diploma and eight diploma courses in Thai and English .

In total, around 6,000 students study at Payap University, around 6% of whom are trained in the English-language courses at the International College (IC).
