The Kasetsart University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย เกษตรศาสตร์ , RTGS Mahawitthayalai Kasetsat [ kàsèːtsàːt ], translated: "University of Agricultural Science") in Bangkok is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities in Thailand and was the country's first agricultural university. Today, however, it is a full university , so it also has faculties outside of the agricultural sciences .
history
Kasetsart existed in 1914 as a pedagogical school for agriculture. It was founded by three friends: Luang Suwan Vajokkasikij, Phra Chuangkasetsinlapakan and Luang Ingkhasikasikan. The three are revered as the founding father to this day. In front of their statue on the university campus, students, especially before exams, make wreaths of flowers and animal figures as offerings. On February 2, 1943, the technical school was upgraded to the “University of Agricultural Science”, as Kasetsart University, by a resolution of Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram's government . A pedagogical faculty was also created later. During the reign of Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat , it was expanded to a full university in 1962.
In 2005, Kasetsart was the first university with an entrance examination, but it was still very popular with school leavers in Thailand.
Kasetsart University has numerous international partners, including a cooperation agreement with the Justus Liebig University of Giessen since 1984 .
