Chatuchak ( Thai จตุจักร , tɕà.tùʔ.tɕàk ) is one of the 50 districts (Khet) in Bangkok , the capital of Thailand . Chatuchak is a northern district halfway from downtown to Don Mueang Airport . Chatuchak is known for its extensive weekend market.

Chatuchak is bounded in the north by the Khlong Bang Khen, in the east by the Khlong Lat Phrao, in the south by the Khlong Bang Sue and in the west by the "southern railway line" (from Hua Lamphong main station via Bang Sue station and further towards southern Thailand ) and from the Thanon Prachachuen .

The neighboring districts are clockwise from the north: Lak Si , Bang Khen , Lat Phrao , Huai Khwang , Din Daeng , Phaya Thai, and Bang Sue .

history

Chatuchak was originally part of Bang Khen . In 1989 he became a separate khet. The name of the district comes from the two sights, Chatuchak Park and Chatuchak Weekend Market . The golf course of the State Railways of Thailand used to be on the area of ​​the district. Today the Chatuchak Weekend Market and Chatuchak Park are located here. On August 12, 1992, a botanical garden , the “Queen Sirikit Park” , opened here .

Markets and parks

  • Chatuchak Weekend Market - arguably the most famous establishment in the district is the market that takes place every weekend. It is the largest in the country and opens in a partitioned complex that can be reached from all sides through entrances with large parking spaces in front of them. It serves less as a fresh market, but more for the sale of brand-new clothing, second-hand items, plants, furnishings and even art.

Central Plaza Lat Phrao ( spelling CentralPlaza Lardprao ) at the fork of Th. Phahonyothin and Th. Vibhavadi Rangsit was one of the first large shopping centers in Thailand when it opened in 1983. It is the district's largest shopping center and consists of the Central Department Store, the Bangkok Convention Center (Thailand's first convention center), several cinemas and numerous retail stores. In 2011 it was completely modernized. The Major Cineplex Ratchayothin, a large cinema with an IMAX theater, is also nearby .
