history

Originally the area of today's Bang Khae was a tambon of the district ( Amphoe ) Phasi Charoen in the province of Thonburi .

In 1972 the provinces of Thonburi and Phra Nakhon were merged to form the special administrative area "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon" (Bangkok), with Bang Khae becoming a subdistrict of Phasi Charoen. The administrative units of the capital were retained, only the amphoe was renamed to Khet and the tambon to Khwaeng .

When Phasi Charoen later increased in population, a new district, Phasi Charoen Sakha 1 , was established, which at the time consisted of the sub-districts Bang Khae, Bang Khae Nuea and Bang Phai.

On November 18, 1997, Phasi Charoen Sakha 1 District was merged with Lak Song Sub-District, which was part of Nong Khaem District, to form a new district called Bang Khae. On March 6, 1998, the administrative units of Bang Khae were reorganized, but the boundaries of the subdistricts were retained.
