Khwaeng

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Khwaeng ( Thai แขวง ) are administrative units below the districts ( Khet ) in Thailand's capital Bangkok . They are on the same level as the tambon in the other provinces. There are 169 khwaeng in Bangkok.

In the past, administrative units below the provinces of Khwaeng were named in some regions of the country ; the provinces themselves were called Mueang , a term that was uniformly replaced by Changwat by the administrative reform at the beginning of the 20th century . At the same time, all Khwaeng outside Bangkok were given the common name Amphoe .

Khwaeng ( Laotian ແຂວງ , French khoueng ) are also the names of the 16 provinces of Laos .
